The Velas Resorts Group in Mexico have topped the Expedia list for the top hotels in the world with the release of its Insiders’ Select 2010 list. The Grand Velas All Suites and Spa Resort was selected as the number one hotel in Nuevo Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. Sister-properties, Casa Velas Hotel Boutique and Velas Vallarta Suite Resort and Convention Center also made it to the top list. Casa Velas Hotel Boutique, an adults-only property, was named the number one hotel for Puerto Vallarta and is ranked on the worldwide list. The family-friendly Velas Vallarta Suite Resort and Convention Center ranked number five in Puerto Vallarta. To come up with the Insiders’ Select list, Expedia reviewed more than 114,000 hotels and resorts, giving each one a numerical score. These scores determine the ranking of each property and are completely independent of advertisers and partners. Only the top hotels with the highest scores made it onto the company’s top hotel list. Expedia Insiders’ Select list includes just the top 1% of all Expedia hotels and resorts. Properties included in the list were chosen based on value and quality, by millions of travelers and customers, and by company experts. The Velas Resorts Group has earned numerous prestigious international awards for its top-of-the-industry services and facilities. Among them are Conde Nast’s “Most Excellent Spa Hotel” and the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences “5 Star Diamond Award.”

Interval International has presented the Villa Group in Mexico with the Chairman’s Club Award. During a recent ceremony in Nuevo Vallarta, Interval International, presented The Villa Group’s executives with the prestigious Chairman’s Club Award. The annual award recognizes the top 25 membership-producing companies worldwide, based on new memberships received by Interval during the previous calendar year. Tau Resorts are now members of Interval International. The Tau Nahui and Tau Santa Maria in Nayarit are the two new Tau Resorts that establish the foundation for a collection of beachfront and boutique eco-resorts. The Pacifico Diamante Private Residence Club under construction in Acapulco is now part of the Interval International Global Resort Network. The property will feature 200 three and four-bedroom fractional units being built in five phases during the next several years. They have been designed with a sophisticated contemporary decor and feature spacious dining and living rooms, marble floors, fully equipped gourmet kitchens with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, state-of-the-art electronics, Wi Fi Internet access, and private outdoor terraces.

The Welk Resorts Cabo Sirena Del Mar is now open and is one of the newest members of Interval International. Overlooking the Sea of Cortez near Cabo San Lucas on the Baja California peninsula, this property is the first international location in the Welk Resorts portfolio. It is the Welk Resorts sixth property and is set on a 65-foot bluff on the tip of the peninsula.

The resort property is being built in tiers to maximize its panoramic views of the Sea of Cortez and El Arco, the landmark stone arch. There are two pools on the seven-acre property and cascading decks have wet wall water features, a vanishing edge waterfall and spa, thatched palapas, and a fire pit. At the rim of the seaside cliff is a spiral staircase leads to a cove beach. Sixteen of the 20 two-bedroom villas in phase one of Welk Resorts Cabo Sirena del Mar are lock-off units, and the remaining four units are two-bedroom penthouses.

The build out is scheduled to progress in five phases for a total of 222 units with a range of configurations, including one-bedroom junior suites. All units will include luxury amenities such as whirlpool tubs, stainless appliances, multiple flat screen TVs, complimentary Internet access, and pillow-top king-sized beds. Phase one owners and guests will be able to enjoy a range of on-site amenities including two outdoor pools (one with a swim-up bar), a fitness center, game room, an owner’s lounge and shop selling beverages and sundries. Just five minutes from the property is Cabo San Lucas, with a full spectrum of shopping, dining, golf and water sports.

Currently under construction, the property will be situated on 35 acres along Mujeres Bay, opposite Isla Mujeres, and a 15-minute drive from downtown Cancun. The first phase is slated to open in 2010 and two additional phases are expected to be completed by 2012. Each villa will be elegantly decorated and include a living room, dining room, full kitchen with granite countertops, modern appliances and electronic equipment, and a spacious terrace.
